Visitor Information

Lakes Entrance

Lakes Entrance is one of Victoria’s biggest holiday towns and deserves your consideration next time you plan a getaway.

Lakes Entrance is where the Ninety Mile Beach meets the Gippsland Lakes, so there’s plenty of water fun to be had. It is also one of Victoria’s biggest fishing ports. Fish, surf, swim, boat or enjoy leisure water pursuits such as windsurfing. The surf beach is patrolled by lifesavers in summer. Take a cruise on the water and enjoy lunch while you’re out there or hire a boat and explore the waterways for yourself. For fun consider hiring a paddleboat, catamaran or aquabike and enjoy the lake.

A worthwhile walk at Lakes Entrance is the track that takes you from Ninety Mile Beach all the way to the entrance of the lake. For great views of Lakes Entrance and water head to Jemmy’s Point Lookout. It’s only two kilometres west of the town. Alternatively take a ride on the East Gippsland Rail Trail. It stretches from Bairnsdale in the west to Orbost in the east.

Lakes Entrance is also a great base for exploring the three national parks in the vicinity. They include the Snowy River National Park, the coastline hugging Croajingalong National Park and the Alpine National Park. There are a couple of beautiful driving options in them.

Also worth a look are the caves at Buchan. Tours are available and you’ll be amazed at what you see. Other day tripping option include the areas around Paynesville, Raymond Island and Metung, which are all part of the largest inland water system in the country.
Your stomach will thank you for choosing Lakes Entrance with some excellent seafood restaurants as well as wide variety of other options.

There’s plenty of shops to explore along and around the Esplanade in Lakes Entrance and all your needs are covered in the town. Drive to Bairnsdale for a larger range of shopping options.

For the golfer there are two courses at Lakes Entrance and one between Bairnsdale and Paynesville. Ways to build up a sweat include gym, tennis courts, squash, mini golf, football, bowls, cricket, football and heated pool.

See almost 100,000 shells, coral and a big marlin head at the Griffiths' Sea Shell Museum.

Kinkuna Country Fun and Fauna Park, just out of Lakes Entrance, will keep the kids entertained for a while with waterslides, playground and jumping castle. It’s on the Princes Highway.

Your health needs are covered with medical clinics in Lakes Entrance and Paynesville and a regional hospital in nearby Bairnsdale.

To get to Lakes Entrance drive the 300 or so kilometres from Melbourne to the town or take a train/coach, public transport combination.
